CIOs need to pivot from observation to active strategy in Days 31-60.

If you haven't read Days 1-30, we suggest you do so before we dive in.

Thank you for those who have read and are following along for our next segment: Alignment and Early Action.

Now that you’ve diagnosed the patient, it’s time to prescribe the treatment.

Month two pivots from passive observation to active strategy formulation and securing early victories.

Develop the Strategy Framework

Translate your assessment findings into a cohesive Technology Strategy. Identify 3–5 broad themes—such as "Infrastructure Modernization" or "Security Fortification"—that directly map to the business priorities you uncovered in month one. Create a one-page executive summary; if you can’t explain the strategy on a napkin, it’s too complex.

Secure Executive Buy-In

Socialize this strategy immediately. A roadmap developed in isolation is a roadmap to nowhere. Validate your direction with the CEO and CFO to ensure financial and operational feasibility before finalizing your year-one priorities.

Launch "Quick Wins"

need to put points on the scoreboard to build political capital. Identify 2–3 low-risk, high-visibility initiatives achievable within 90 days. Whether it’s reclaiming wasted software spend or streamlining a painful help-desk process, these small victories demonstrate immediate value and buy you time for the heavier lifting.

Rally the Leadership Team

Finally, align your direct reports. Establish operating principles and clear expectations. You need a cohesive unit to execute the vision you are now solidifying.

Month two focuses on building alignment and initiating carefully chosen actions.
